Santo Wines
Tasting60 min on site
The first winery: the cooperative of the island's growers, around 1,200 members with roots back to 1911, on the caldera edge below Pyrgos with the tasting terrace over the cliff. Three different wines, served with a plate of local cheeses, cured meats and breadsticks, overlooking the vineyard. About 50 minutes. 18 and over — younger guests are welcome and are served soft drinks. Assyrtiko first, then the barrel-aged Nykteri, and the Vinsanto or one of the organic Aidani, Athiri and Mavrotragano the house is known for.
Wine tastings are for guests aged 18 and over. Under-18s are welcome and are served soft drinks. ID may be requested.

Profitis Ilias
Viewpoint15 min on site
Profitis Ilias between the wineries: the highest point on the island, a short photo stop for the 360° panorama — the caldera on one side, the farmland, the beaches and the Aegean on the other — and a chance to stand up and let the first flight settle.

Koutsogiannopoulos Wine Museum & Winery
Tasting60 min on site
The last winery: a family house in Vothonas run by the fifth generation, on the island since two brothers from Laconia were blown off course on their way to Syros in 1870. On the same site is the only underground wine museum in Greece, a natural cave eight metres down and 300 metres long that took 21 years to dig. Three different wines, served with a plate of local cheeses, cured meats and breadsticks, overlooking the vineyard. About 50 minutes. 18 and over — younger guests are welcome and are served soft drinks. Vinsanto was the family's first export, and it is the last glass of the afternoon.
Wine tastings are for guests aged 18 and over. Under-18s are welcome and are served soft drinks. ID may be requested.
The wine museum is a natural cave eight metres underground, with steps and uneven ground.
Stops you can add. Each one extends the afternoon and is charged by the hour at your group's rate; the booking form shows the time and the price before you pay.

About this tour
Santorini's vines are ungrafted. Phylloxera, which wiped out Europe in the 1800s, never took hold in the volcanic ash, so some of the root systems here are centuries old. The vine is trained into a kouloura, a basket woven from the plant itself, which shelters the fruit from the wind and the salt and catches the night humidity that stands in for rain. It does not rain here from May to October.

Three wines come out of that. Assyrtiko: bone-dry, high acid, saline, the grape the island is known for. Nykteri: barrel-aged Assyrtiko, historically picked at night to keep the grapes cool. Vinsanto: sun-dried grapes, aged for years, the island's sweet wine. You will taste them at two wineries — Santo Wines and Koutsogiannopoulos — with a photo stop at Profitis Ilias, the island's summit, between them.
Santo Wines is the cooperative of the island's growers — roots back to 1911, around 1,200 members — and its gravity winery stands on the caldera edge below Pyrgos, so the tasting there is on a terrace above the cliff. Koutsogiannopoulos is a family house in Vothonas, on the island since 1870 and run by the fifth generation, with the only underground wine museum in Greece on the same site: a natural cave eight metres down and 300 metres long. Each tasting: Three different wines, served with a plate of local cheeses, cured meats and breadsticks, overlooking the vineyard. About 50 minutes. 18 and over — younger guests are welcome and are served soft drinks. Tastings are prepaid with your booking — €30 per person at each winery, for every guest aged 18 or over — and nothing further is paid at the wineries.
The vehicle is yours for four hours. The tour runs between 10:00 and 18:00, and the booking form only offers start times that still fit — you can add a stop (Pyrgos, Megalochori, Firostefani) and the extra time is charged by the hour at your group size rate, shown before you pay. Groups of 21 or more travel by coach from a meeting point we agree when we confirm the booking.

Frequently asked questions
What if it rains?
The tour runs. Rain on Santorini is short and rare in season; the villages, the winery and the viewpoints all work in it, and the order is adjusted so that the exposed stops fall in the dry spells. If the weather makes a stop unsafe — high winds at a cliff edge, for instance — we skip that stop and say why.
Can we change the order of the stops?
Yes, with the driver on the morning. The order on the page is the one that works best for light and crowds, but if you want the beach before the villages, say so at pickup. The only fixed point is a sunset stop, which has to be last.
Is food included?
Not as a meal. Each tasting is served with a plate of local cheeses, cured meats and breadsticks. If you want a sit-down lunch, tell us and we will put a taverna on the route inside the four hours.
What if my flight is late and I miss the pickup?
Tours start from your hotel, not the airport, so a late flight only matters if you land on the morning of the tour. If that is your plan, tell us the flight number when you book and we will set the pickup after your realistic arrival, or move you to another day at no charge if the flight is delayed.
Can you take a wheelchair?
Not on this tour as designed. The villages are steps and steep cobbles, the viewpoints are uneven, and our vehicles have no lift. If you or someone in your party uses a wheelchair, contact us before booking: we will say honestly which stops are workable from the vehicle and which are not, and quote a route built around that.
How much are the tastings?
€30 per person at each winery, for every guest aged 18 or over, prepaid with your booking — the breakdown is shown in the booking form before you pay. Under-18s are not charged and are served soft drinks. Nothing is paid at the wineries.
